The Three Selves Theory in the Context of Holistic Regression Therapy

The question “Who am I?” may initially feel awkward. We are used to answering questions like who I am or what I do, but in the context of therapy, one of the most important goals is to create a deeper connection with oneself. In holistic regression therapy, the Three Selves model is used, which divides a person into the Subconscious Self,, the Conscious Self and the Higher Self. This concept is based on philosophical, psychological, and spiritual traditions.

What is the Subconscious Self and how does it influence us?

The Subconscious Self is our deeper memory bankwhere past experiences, emotions, and beliefs are stored — including patterns formed both consciously and unconsciously. This includes childhood traumas, suppressed fears, and beliefs, mis võivad mõjutada meie elu, ilma et me seda märkaksime. Holistilises regressiooniteraapias sukeldume alateadvusesse, et vabastada vanad haavad ja piiravad mõttemustrid, mis hoiavad meid kinni minevikus.

Example: Anna (name changed) grew up in a home where her parents often argued about money. As a child, she constantly heard phrases like “money makes people greedy” and “rich people are bad.” As an adult, she finds it difficult to ask for a raise, even when she knows she deserves it. She feels uncomfortable even when someone praises her work because deep down, she fears that earning more money will make her a worse person. As a result, she remains in a low-paying job, feels inferior, and believes that “money shouldn’t matter,” even though she secretly longs for financial security and success.

How would therapy help in this situation?

In therapy, we can work with the client’s subconscious beliefs about money, identify those patterns, and replace them with more supportive thought patterns, such as “money is energy received in exchange for work” or “I deserve a life of abundance and security.”

The Conscious Self – Are you in control of your life, or are you living by habit?

The Conscious Self is the part of us that makes everyday decisions, analyzes situations, and connects with the Subconscious and Higher Self.If we are unaware of our inner patterns, we may make decisions that are actually influenced by old fears or beliefs.

Example: Mart(name changed)is an entrepreneur who has the opportunity to expand his business. Although he feels it is a good opportunity, he ultimately decides not to pursue it. As a child, he often heard his father say, “No one is sincere, everyone wants to take advantage of you.” This subconscious fear of mistrust holds him back from moving forward professionally.

How would therapy help in this situation? In therapy, we can explore the origin of this mistrust pattern and release the related emotional blockages. This enables making decisions based on reality rather than fear.

The Higher Self – Intuitive Wisdom and Life Purpose

The Higher Self is our deeper wisdom, inner guide, and pure consciousness that extends beyond the ego and everyday reasoning. It is the part of us that senses the bigger picture of life and guides us toward love, intuition, and a higher purpose. In holistic regression therapy, we establish contact with our Higher Self to receive answers, heal our soul, and move toward self-actualization.

Example: Liis ((name changed)feels that she is constantly receiving “signs” from the universe telling her to quit her job and move to another country. She repeatedly notices similar symbols (e.g., airplanes, foreign country names) and interprets this as guidance from their Higher Self. In reality, deep within their subconscious lies a profound fear of failure — she worries she won’t succeed in their current job, and the desire to “start over” is more of an escape than a conscious choice. Their decision is not connected to Higher Self guidance but rather to a subconscious need to avoid uncomfortable feelings.

How would therapy help in this situation?

Therapy and various techniques can help explore whether the desire to leave a job and relocate is based on genuine fulfillment and inspiration or on fear and avoidance. By working through limiting subconscious patterns, it becomes possible to distinguish true intuition from fear-driven impulses.

Creating Balance Among the Three Selves – The Path to Better Connection and Self-Actualization.

The goal of therapy is to create harmony between the Subconscious Self, the Conscious Self, and the Higher Self — by releasing suppressed feelings and beliefs, increasing awareness, and supporting connection with your true inner guide.

🌿 The beauty of therapy is in creating equilibrium among the three layers of Self — dissolving subconscious blocks, expanding awareness, and aligning with the Higher Self’s wisdom. 🌿
